Byron Holmes Shafer

ImaginThat! LLC was founded by Byron Shafer in 2001, making available his creative talents as an Independent Consultant. Byron is a 20 year veteran of electronic graphics, video & information technology development at AT&T.

Biography

F     Trained as a Commercial Artist, Byron’s career with AT&T began in 1981 as Art Director in the Business Market Education department, managing a staff of 26 designers, artists & photographers. In addition, he was responsible for staging Multimedia support for National Sales and Marketing meetings.

F     In 1985 he joined the Electronic Education & Training group as Art Director, developing interactive touch screen videodisc programs, designing sets for video productions.

F     As artist in residence at Bell Labs from 1987 - 1989 he was a member of the pioneering Interactive TV software development team. Usability testing & feedback was provided to developers for the authoring system’s Graphical User Interfaces. Designing and installing interactive kiosk programs was the principle work. These were displayed at domestic and international tradeshows, retail locations, the Museum of Modern Art, the 1991 Worlds Fair in Spain and the World Key Information System at Disney’s Epcot Center. Work on a suite of interactive games garnered the Gold and Best of Show awards at the 1988 Cindy Awards and a Silver Reel award from the ITVA.

F     For AT&T Corporate TV he designed, produced and art directed broadcast quality graphics and animations created for Product Marketing, Sales and Corporate Education. In the early 90s, Byron managed Quality Control and Graphics Training for application development on experimental Interactive Television trials at AT&T’s Downtown Digital in New York City. He served for three years as NYC Chapter President of the International Interactive Communication Society.

F     In 1995, he introduced the first Internet Curriculum at the AT&T School of Business in support of the emerging AT&T WorldNet and Web Site Services. Classes were delivered to over 1000 customers.

F     From 1997 to 1999, as Service Delivery manager for AT&T Web Hosting Services he supported over 8000 customers, developing online Customer Training, FAQs and Documentation. In 2000 he took over release planning for Dedicated Hosting Services.

F     Byron currently teaches Web Site Design for the Ocean County Vocational Technical Schools in addition to providing creative consulting services. He will complete his Bachelors of Science degree in eBusiness through the online campus of the University
of Phoenix in May 2004.
